Palmer, Glenn Highway, Richardson Highway ~Alaska Trip Day 40

The Palmer visitor center had a beautifully maintained garden outside. Inside, a film on the original colonizing of the town was very interesting to watch. In the era of F. D. Roosevelt's New Deal, the government sent 203 farm families to Palmer to tame the land and populate Alaska.

Then we started the long drive between the mountains. It was a lovely day to wind through the autumn leaves, across flowing rivers, and beside glacial hills.

At the crossroads in Glenallen, we deviated from the route home for one more Alaskan hurrah in the coastal town of Valdez.
